What to stream this week on Telstra TV

Explosive action blockbusters, thrilling crime dramas, quirky comedies and family fairytales – there’s something for everyone this week on Telstra TV.

Get set for the insanely gory, intensely fast-paced and incredibly hilarious Express Release of THE SUICIDE SQUAD, available now on Telstra TV Box Office. When the fate of the world is thrown into peril by Project Starfish, a sinister experiment being conducted deep within the jungles of South American island nation Corto Maltese, ARGUS Director Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assembles a group of the world’s baddest super-villains to find and eliminate an even greater threat. Led by Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), their ragtag team includes Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), Blackguard (Pete Davidson), King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). Facing deadly adversaries at every turn, the odds of survival are stacked against them. But the future of humanity rests in their lethally destructive hands.

Brought to us by the team behind hit British crime drama Line of Duty comes the gripping new six-part BBC series, VIGIL – streaming now on BINGE. Set mostly within the claustrophobic confines of a fictional Royal Navy nuclear submarine, the titular HMS Vigil, Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack) stars as whip smart, no-nonsense police detective Amy Silva – who is helicoptered aboard to investigate the suspicious death of Chief Petty Officer, Craig Burke (Line of Duty’s Martin Compston). With the vessel on active duty patrolling the Scottish coastline, Vigil is unable to return to base. But as the case quickly becomes a murder inquiry, Silva finds herself up against a tight-lipped crew and an obstructive Naval hierarchy – helped only by fellow detective Kirsten Longacre (Game of Thrones’ Rose Leslie) searching for clues back on dry land. Stream the first two instalments now, with new episodes streaming each Monday on BINGE.

Cinderella (Amazon Prime Video)

Camila Cabello leads an all-star cast in this magnificent modern take on the musical fairytale classic, CINDERELLA – streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. Cabello stars as downtrodden seamstress Ella, with dreams of one day opening her own fashion boutique to feature the dresses she lovingly crafts in her basement bedroom. When the King (Pierce Brosnan) and Queen (Minnie Driver) hold a ball to find a bride for their son, Prince Robert (Nicholas Galitzine), Ella gets to work designing a gown that will showcase her talents – until she’s forbidden to attend by her vile stepmother Vivian, played by Tony Award winner Idina Menzel. But when her Fabulous Godmother (Billy Porter) sprinkles some magic her way, it’s not long before she’s off dazzling the entire kingdom – and the future king.

New to Disney+ this week is the charmingly funny murder mystery series, ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez play three neighbours who generally avoid making eye contact in the elevator, living in the expansive Arconia Building on New York’s Upper West Side. There’s Charles, the retired actor known for playing a 90s TV detective; Oliver, a between-jobs veteran Broadway director; and Mabel, a young woman living in whilst renovating her aunt’s sprawling condominium. When a fire alarm forces them to evacuate their apartments, they bump into each other at a nearby bar and soon bond over the true-crime podcast they’re all obsessed with, “All Is Not OK In Oklahoma” narrated by Tina Fey. So when they return to the building and discover a fellow resident has been killed, the trio decide to conduct an amateur investigation – and, of course, a podcast of their own.
