Tom Holland Supports Brother Paddy’s New Apple TV+ Show Invasion

Spider-Man star Tom Holland sends out a message of support for Invasion, the new AppleTV+ sci-fi series that features his younger brother Paddy.

Tom Holland sends out a message of support for his younger brother, Paddy, after the debut of Invasion. A sci-fi series that recently premiered its first three episodes on Apple TV+, Invasion takes shape as Earth is visited by an alien species that threatens humanity’s existence. Through the eyes of five ordinary people spread across the globe, the show takes place in real-time as the five protagonists struggle to make sense of the events that unfold around them. The show is co-created by David Weil and Simon Kinberg, who produced the X-Men movies and directed 2019’s Dark Pheonix.

Invasion boasts a large ensemble of actors. The cast includes Sam Neill, Shamier Anderson, Golshifteh Farahani, Firas Nassar, Shioli Kutsuna, Tara Moayedi, and Daisuke Tsuji. Appearing in the role of Montgomery “Monty” Cuttermill, Paddy Holland plays a school bully who mocks and singles out his classmates as the crisis unfolds. The part is a big leap for Paddy, representing his first major on-screen credit after a small part in 2018’s Holmes & Watson and several short films.

Tom Holland, who is of course best known for playing Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sent out a message of support for Paddy via Instagram. In the post, Tom wrote that he was proud of his younger sibling and expressed his hope that they’d be able to work together someday. You can check out the Instagram post below.

Invasion, which consists of ten episodes, has garnered mixed reviews so far. Critics have dinged the show for its slow pacing, relying too much on exposition, and taking too long to get to the core of the story. Still, for others, the Apple TV+ offering has been praised for being a big-budget sci-fi show that nonetheless subverts the expectation of viewers in interesting ways. For his part, Kinberg has noted that he views the show as a sort of alien twist on This Is Us by focusing on different characters and their journeys, even in the middle of a uniquely uncertain and life-altering situation.

It remains to be seen if that approach works for Invasion in the long term. But it is clear that Tom enjoys sharing the screen with his siblings. It was revealed earlier this year that Tom’s brother, Sam, would have a bit of a cameo role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sam also had a similar cameo in Cherry. Tom has been vocal in the past about his desire to do more genre work, either in comedies or horror films, and perhaps that will give the brothers the opportunity to share the screen in a more substantial way.
