The return of Succession and 10 more movies and shows to watch this week

This week is absolutely PACKED with incredible new movies and shows!

In what has got to be the most jammed week of new entertainment options in some time, some of the most anticipated arrivals on the big screen and small screen have finally arrived for your perusal… but which ones should you be watching??

Well, that is what we’re here to answer!

The latest episode of The Big Reviewski can be watched in full below or you can skip to the cinema reviews (5:30), home entertainment recommendations (14:35), and classic re-watches (20:15).

Here are the new cinema releases, which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 15 October.

VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE

The sequel to the massive 2018 blockbuster sees Tom Hardy’s head-chomping anti-hero go head-to-head with Woody Harrelson’s escaped serial killer Carnage. Check out our interview with the movie’s director Andy Serkis right here:

THE LAST DUEL

The movie that Matt Damon was filming during lockdown is finally upon us. Co-starring Jodie Comer, Adam Driver and Ben Affleck, it sees Comer accuse her husband’s (Damon) best friend (Driver) of assault, and the powerful ramifications from that accusation.

HALLOWEEN KILLS

Following on from 2018’s rebootquel, this is the second movie in the capping-off trilogy, ahead of 2022’s Halloween Ends. Jamie Lee Curtis returns to the iconic role of Laurie Strode once again, and you can check out our interview with the legendary actress right here:

ARRACHT

Ireland’s 2020 shortlisted entry for Best International Movie at the Oscars, this powerful drama set with the Great Hunger sees a young man go to great lengths in order to keep those closest to him alive. Hollywood has already come calling for the big budget remake.

RON’S GONE WRONG

Disney’s new movie is a mini-Hangover reunion, with Zack Galifianakis and Ed Helms providing voices for this family-friendly animation about a young boy (Jack Dylan Grazer) who realises that his new robot buddy might have some screws loose… literally. We chatted to Zack and Ed ahead of the movie’s release, and you can check out that interview in full right here:

And now on to the stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…

SUCCESSION SEASON 3

The Roy family are heading towards a civil war, and as we mentioned in our spoiler-free review of the new season, it is funnier, smarter and more vicious than ever. The first episode of the third season is available to watch on NOW and Sky Atlantic from Monday, 18 October.

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER

The TV adaptation of the same book that gave us the hit ’90s movie, this time it is another group of teens who are involved in a hit and run and try to keep their secret buried. The first four episodes of I Know What You Did Last Summer arrive on Prime Video on Friday, 15 October, with subsequent episodes arriving each Friday after that.

MUPPETS HAUNTED MANSION

Considering how popular the mixture of the Muppets and Christmas turned out to be, we’re actually kind of surprised it took them this long to get mixed up with Halloween! Muppets Haunted Mansion is available to watch on Disney+ right now.

YOU SEASON 3

The return of serial killer Joe (Penn Badgley), trying to live the quiet life with his girlfriend and their baby son in the suburbs. But old (murderous) habits die hard… All 10 episodes of You Season 3 arrive on Netflix on Friday, 15 October.

And finally, the amazingly exciting Pizza And A Movie section, which will be focusing on spooky movies for the month of October…

Here are this week’s picks, with the vote once again going up on JOE’s Instagram channel, so keep an eye out on that to have your say!

Rory’s Pick – WHAT LIES BENEATH

Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford star in this creepy ghost story about a husband and wife who believe their home is being haunted by a young woman who may have been murdered by someone in their neighbourhood. What Lies Beneath is available to watch on Disney+ from Friday, 15 October.

Eoghan’s Pick – HOCUS POCUS

One of the most iconic Halloween movies of all time, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy bringing their old school witch powers to modern day America. Hocus Pocus is available to watch on Disney+ right now.

Clips via 20th Century Studios, HBO, Break Out Pictures, Prime Video, Disney Plus, and Netflix
