Writer/director James Gunn shares a new video from the set of The Suicide Squad featuring Nathan Fillion doing ballet in between takes. Fillion starred in the DC Extended Universe sequel as Cory Pitzner, better known as T.D.K. or The Detachable Kid, a metahuman with the ability to detach his limbs from his body and use them as weapons. The Detachable Kid was one of a large roster of characters making their debut in the DCEU with The Suicide Squad alongside Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, John Cena’s Peacemaker, Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2, David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man and Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, amongst others.
The Suicide Squad also saw the returns of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang. The film saw the titular team of criminals tasked with heading to the South American island of Corto Maltese to wipe out all traces of Project Starfish. Hitting theaters and HBO Max in August, The Suicide Squad received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for better capitalizing on the potential of its concept than David Ayer’s predecessor and for Gunn’s unique brand of humor and direction.
With just a week remaining until the film’s home media arrival, Gunn took to Twitter to share new set video for The Suicide Squad. The latest video sees Fillion in his T.D.K. outfit with a blue motion capture suit underneath performing an impromptu dance recital between takes on the film. Check out the funny set video below:
The appearance of Fillion in The Suicide Squad marked a nice reunion between the star and Gunn, who first began working together with the 2006 horror-comedy Slither and continued with supporting or cameo appearances in Super and the Guardians of the Galaxy films. The set video for the DCEU film displays a good idea of the fun atmosphere Gunn brings to each of his sets and the antics that his cast and crew get up to during shooting, with Gunn having shared other similar fun memories from the film. It’s also interesting to note that Fillion is donning the motion-capture suit for his legs as well as his arms, given the film notes his powers extend to detaching all of his limbs though only his arms are seen being detached and used as weapons.
Though The Suicide Squad seemingly did away with the majority of its characters, it is interesting to note that Gunn himself has confirmed that Fillion’s T.D.K. was indeed still alive when audiences left him wounded on the beach of the opening sequence. Gunn is currently gearing up for the arrival of HBO Max’s Peacmaker in January 2022, which he teased will include the return of one character from the DCEU film, leading some to theorize he may in fact be reuniting with Fillion and bringing T.D.K. back once again. In the meantime, audiences can look forward to revisiting The Suicide Squad when it hits shelves on 4K Ultra-HD, Blu-ray and DVD next week.
