Hawkeye Actress Shares Training Video For Echo Spinoff Show

Marvel’s Hawkeye actress Alaqua Cox shows off her considerable strength in a new training video as she preps for her Disney+ spin-off Echo.

Hawkeye actress Alaqua Cox reveals the first training video for her upcoming spin-off series Echo. Following the animated multiverse tale What If…?, the next Marvel series planned for Disney+ is Hawkeye, the first solo project centered on Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton. The 6-episode series will continue Clint’s story after Avengers: Endgame, and it will help pave the way forward for newer MCU characters like Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). Hawkeye is also notable because it already has a spin-off in the works; Echo was first announced in March of this year.

Cox will make her MCU debut as the Daredevil character Echo, also known as Maya Lopez. In the comics, Echo was raised by Wilson Fisk to be an assassin, with Matt Murdock as her frequent target. Little is known about her role in Hawkeye, but it will evidently be enough to yield her own story. Back in August, Cox shared a casting call for Echo, confirming the series is inching forward towards production. As she waits for it to begin, she’s diving right into her training.

On social media, Cox shared a video of herself working on her Echo weight training. With admirable focus, Cox goes through a series of reps with a loaded barbell. “I can now dead lift more than my body weight,” she wrote alongside the video. She’s already received the support from fellow Marvel star Lauren Ridloff, who added “Fierce!” in the comments. You can see Cox’s video down below.

Echo is a major step forward for the MCU in terms of onscreen representation. Not only is Cox the franchise’s first Native American lead, she’s also going to be its first deaf lead (Ridloff will play the MCU’s first deaf hero with this year’s ensemble piece Eternals). As Cox has already demonstrated, she has the chops to take center stage in a Marvel project, and it’ll be really exciting to see how she brings Echo to life. With this video, Cox gets to join the superhero tradition of showing off her training process ahead of starting filming.

Echo has yet to receive an official premiere date, but with casting and training already taking place, filming could begin either by the very end of 2021 or early 2022. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait that long before they can see Cox in action. Hawkeye will premiere on Disney+ in November, and it will give an idea about what to expect from Echo. If it is anything like Cox’s training video, it’ll be an impressive showcase for the up and coming actress.
