Harrison Ford to Tom Hardy – A-list celebrities spotted in Warwickshire

And to think little old Warwickshire might have been short on star quality!

Nothing could be further from the truth if the good people of the county are to be believed.

We asked WarwickshireLive readers about some of the celebrities they have encountered on their travels in the county.

And the response was comprehensive to say the least.

Of course, there have been countless dalliances with royalty, from Princess Diane and Prince Charles to Prince Phillip and Her Majesty The Queen herself, heading to the county for various shows and openings.

And there’s been plenty of star spotting at Stratford ‘s Royal Shakespeare Company and even Warwick Hospital.

But that still left enough room for many other brushes with famous folk.

We had a fair few mentions for James Bond actor Daniel Craig and comedian Russell Howard without specifics as to where they were seen. But there’s no smoke without fire, so they say!

Adam Woodyatt, best known as the long-suffering Ian Beale in Eastenders, earned a number of nominations.

But many others, with no disrespect to Mr Woodyatt, are next-level stardom.

That’s certainly the case for Sarah Horswood who had a chance meeting with one of Hollywood’s biggest names.

“Literally bumped into Harrison Ford on the corner of Waterside and Bridge Street, Stratford, back in 1977,” she said.

“Couldn’t place where I’d seen him before, then it hit me…He was the guy in Star Wars!”

Sarah Louise said: “Judge Rinder came into our sweet shop once, and some guy from the band Mcfly. We’ve had quite a few pop in.”

Stewart Haley encountered Jenifer Saunders “two years running”, Tim West, Joss Ackland and the Italian Rugby team as passengers on boats he guided around Stratford.

Hardy, star of countless Hollywood blockbusters such as Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk, passed modules one and two at a rider training school to gain his full motorcycle licence.

And there was the time David Tennant was in town for the filming of You, Me and Him.

Many people have come across people in the public eye in the line of their own duties.

Recalling a showbiz experience many years ago, Heather Larby said: “Larry Grayson and his chauffeur came into Boots in Market Street, Warwick, when I worked there in 1979.”

“I used to drive for Biffa waste and used to collect the rubbish from Tellytubby land and loads of celebrities around Stratford,” Alan Nobby Potter said.

“I used to have a cup of coffee with Dianne Copeland off Bless This House every Wednesday when collecting her rubbish. I also went to school with women’s darts champion Trina Gulliver.”

Stephen Elvis McQueen met Muhammad Ali in the mid 80s “at unit sales in Warwick”.



Others just know how, and where, to spot those with a higher profile.

Lesley Timms said: “If you want famous people, they’re often in the filling station opposite the Kia garage on Stratford road. They stop in the hotels just off the M40.

“I saw Kevin Keegan, Timmy Vincent and a guy out of Casualty that was doing a Shakespeare play in Stratford.”
