In the East End of London, the first time of Hilton’s Canopy brand in the United Kingdom

Canopy by Hilton London City is the name of the first address of the US group’s lifestyle brand in the United Kingdom. Located within the luxurious Minories, close to Aldgate station, this is a 340-room eco-friendly property, aiming to become the go-to design lover in London’s East End

After the opening of the Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadero earlier this year and Canopy by Hilton Madrid Castellana, the British novelty joins a portfolio of over 30 facilities around the world: a number that will soon double in the coming years. “Canopy continues to expand its presence in Europe with the recent openings in Paris and Madrid. We are thrilled to bring the brand to London too – underlines the executive vice president and president, Emea, Hilton, Simon vincent -. Our group also has a further 30 hotels in the UK in the pipeline over the next five years ”.

The hotel’s interior design reflects the rich culture of the area’s historic industry, inspired as it is by the Huguenot silk weavers who settled in Spitalfields in the seventeenth century. In fact, the rooms and the dining areas feature floral motifs and fabrics that recall the techniques used by the Huguenots themselves. To celebrate Whitechapel’s contemporary art scene, artworks created by neighborhood artists also enrich the hotel’s public spaces.

Local inspiration continues in the hotel’s f & b premises. Dishes that recall the East End are for example served at Penny Squares, the hotel restaurant, which finds inspiration from the upholstery technique in the textile industry. The Freedom Café, named after the Freedom Press Publishing House in Whitechapel High Street, is instead designed to relax, work or socialize over a coffee or cocktail still inspired by the East End. Guests can also enjoy daily tastings, with appetizers and drinks from local distilleries, craft brewers and wineries. Finally, a must to visit is the splendid Florattica terrace on the roof of the hotel, which opens early next year, with views of St Paul’s Cathedral and London, as well as an offer of fine dining and a selection of drinks.
