(ETX Daily Up) – The long awaited day has arrived. Cannes, its Croisette and its luxury hotels welcomed French and international stars for a 74th edition visibly placed under the sign of rediscovered glamor. After having paid the price for the pandemic in 2020, the Cannes Film Festival is reviving this French chic that the world envies us so much, but also with a certain extravagance, which can be read in the omnipresence of glitter, sequins, and vibrant colors, which had been so lacking since the onset of the health crisis.
Impossible to admire the red carpet of the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival without holding back not a tear but a smile. Joy to see dresses all more glamorous than the others parading on the red carpet of the Palais des Festivals. Joy to see the happiness of reunion displayed on radiant faces. The joy of rediscovering the effervescence of an extraordinary event. Joy to see that life is starting again, quite simply.
And it must be said that the personalities present have put the dishes in the big for this opening ceremony. Some might say it’s not appropriate given the period, but it’s actually what everyone needs: glamor, extravagance, craziness. This is exactly what ordinary people – all of us, in short – will be looking for all summer long. This need to (re) put glitter in our lives.
This is what Carla Bruni, Candice Swanepoel, and Mélanie Laurent did, who appeared in sumptuous sets entirely covered with sparkling details, the height of glamor. Farhana Bodi, for her part, lit up the red carpet in a spectacular yellow dress with an endless train. Marion Cotillard and Lou Doillon opted for iridescence, one silver version, the other gold color, when Spike Lee stood out from his colleagues by showing off in a vibrant pink suit, matching glasses, and sneakers on the feet. Glamor, fantasy, and comfort can indeed coexist. And what about the actress Iris Berben who made the daring choice of the dress with message, on which we could read “Stronger together”, which was also unanimous.
And when sobriety was the order of the day, it was nonetheless glamorous. Evidenced by the outfits of Jessica Chastain and Leïla Bekhti, the first wearing a black spider-web dress, the second in a white suit with a dizzying neckline, which also shone on the Cannes red carpet. A real pleasure to find this beautiful world, more dolled up than ever, whose parade signs, we definitely hope, the return of a glamor that we had missed.
