Stephen King’s 1975 bestselling novel Salem’s Lot is being adapted for the big screen, with Mackenzie Leigh, who appeared in The Assistant and Gotham,and Bill Camp from The Queen’s Gambit set to join the cast.
In the novel, author Ben Mears, who will be played by The Strangers: Prey at Night actor Lewis Pullmann, returns to his childhood home to find that a vampire is terrorising the town.
Leigh will play Susan Norton, a resident of the town who provides extensive knowledge of the vampires and eventually falls in love with Ben, while Camp will play a former high school English teacher who helps Ben hunt for the vampires.
Leigh was the protagonist’s romantic interest in Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk and as Liza in Gotham while Camp earned a SAG nomination for his performance as Mr. Shaibel in The Queen’s Gambit alongside Anya Taylor-Joy. Camp also was nominated for an Emmy for his performance in the limited series The Night Of.

Spencer Treat Clark will also appear in the film as Mike Reyerson, a townsperson caught up in the events of the story, and he previously starred in the M.Night Shyamalan film Glass with James McAvoy, Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Paulson. He has also appeared in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
New Line will be producing the film, after successfully producing It and It Chapter Two, based on King’s novel of the same name, as well as The Conjuring films.
Gary Dauberman is set to the write the screenplay and will direct the film after writing It and four of The Conjuring universe films.
Salem’s Lot was King’s first novel to top the New York Times bestseller list and will certainly be a great one for horror fans to watch. It was adapted into TV mini series in 1979 and 2004, but this will be the first time it will come to cinemas.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is out now in UK and US cinemas.
