extensive functions and fresh design

Maybe you don’t feel like earplugs shaped like a mini hockey stick. Perhaps you are a big JBL fan. Whatever your reason, you want to know if these JBL Tour Pro+ wireless earphones are for you. Find out in this JBL Tour Pro+ review.

JBL Tour Pro+

The Tour Pro+ is by no means the first product to be sold by JBL. For years, the brand has been present in all market segments where music occupies a central place. New earplugs, speakers, microphones and real part boxes pass by on the assembly line.

But why is this set of earplugs different? And who is it for? We find the answer in the name. The Tour series was developed for business professionals who are looking for personal audio products with many technical gadgets and a sleek design.

The line consists of in-ear earphones, but also over-ear headphones. The JBL Tour Pro+ are designed to fit easily in your pocket, without compromising the lifespan of larger headphones.

We are going to see whether JBL has succeeded in serving the target group with the JBL Tour Pro+.

Design and fit

The packaging of the JBL Tour Pro+ gives the appearance of a premium product. A sturdy box that you can easily open. The first thing that strikes me is the size of the case that contains the earbuds. It is smaller than expected. I can keep it in my pocket without it getting annoying. The weight is also great for me.

The earbuds themselves also look sleek. No rods like you’ve seen with most earplugs lately, but just a compact whole that largely fits into the ear cup. To find the best fit, there are extra eartips in the box. Four different sizes, instead of the often usual three options. So you have a little more chance that your size is in between.

Personally, I often find that earplugs start to irritate after about 30 minutes. My auricle then becomes sensitive. I notice that with the JBLs too, but it starts much later. Only after more than an hour I start to feel it. They are therefore a lot more comfortable for me than many other earplugs. So this is actually a plus.

The JBL Tour Pro+ are available in all your favorite colors, as long as that favorite color is black 😉

Battery and charging

The JBL Tour Pro+ earphones are equipped with a reasonable battery that, in theory, lasts about 6 hours. Not terribly long, but it will be enough for many people. A big advantage is that the earbuds in the case are recharged very quickly.

If you find out just before a meeting that your earbuds are empty, they charge enough for one hour of calling in the case within a few minutes. I find that really relaxed about these earphones, because I’m the kind of person who always finds out at the last minute.

The complete battery life is about 36 hours, including the case. And that case is full again within two hours via a USB-C cable. With wireless charging – another great option – it takes four hours.

I used the earbuds for a total of about 5 hours without having to charge them in between. My phone said they were still half full. I didn’t tap those 6 hours, but I do believe they should save that. That was without noise canceling, by the way. That option uses more battery, so you may get slightly different results with ANC.

The earbuds come with a short USB cable, without a plug.

Service

The JBL Tour Pro+ has a large flat surface to tap on thanks to its shape. That’s handy, because that’s exactly where the controls are hidden. Each earplug has its own tap function. If you tap the right earpiece once, the music will stop. If you tap twice, you skip to the next song.

If you tap on the left, you switch between ‘Ambient Aware’, ‘Ambient Aware Off’ and of course ‘ANC’. Double tapping on the left activates ‘talk through’, with which you can hardly hear the music anymore, but you can continue playing. This allows you to speak with someone without taking off the earplugs.

If you keep your finger on the right or left earbud longer, you can activate the Google Assistant.

Connectivity

The connection does not normally receive a separate mention in our reviews of earplugs, but it can be said: the earplugs connect quickly to your phone. I don’t even have the earbuds near my ears yet and they are already connected.

‘Why is that necessary?’ you may ask. Well: I don’t wear earplugs all day, for example. But when I get a call, I want to use them. Normally I would almost miss a phone call because my earbuds didn’t connect in time. Now that is really no longer the case.

So compliments to JBL for this at first sight unnecessary feature, which turns out to be quite useful in reality. Especially for business users who always have to be sharp.

Sound quality

I own a number of other audio products from JBL, mainly because of the depth in the sound. That is always good with the speakers and headphones from JBL. I am therefore a bit spoiled and I know that you cannot expect that in the same class with in-ear earplugs.

Still, I am satisfied with the sound quality of the earphones. The sound is well balanced across all frequencies. I like a bit of bass myself. In the JBL app, I therefore raised the low tones considerably.

GOOD SOUND AND A LOT OF FEATURES MAKE THE JBL TOUR PRO+ A GREAT SET

I would have liked a little more, but for most people this amount of bass will be more than enough. Of course we don’t want our eardrums dancing out of our ear canals in polonaise either. This is striking for JBL, the brand is normally known for its reasonably present low tones with headphones.

I have listened to a number of music styles with the earphones. Pop, house, techno, drum and bass and by accident some Dutch music passed by. Overall, I was pretty happy with the earbuds. I also listened to a podcast, by the way, where the sound was also full and rich.

So I think the sound quality is a good enough score. Can it be better? I dare not tell you. I think JBL is doing well with these earphones. And as mentioned, they are also mainly intended for business users. The focus was therefore not only on sound quality, but also on ease of use and technical gadgets. And I think that combination worked well.
