Next year will be three decades of this uninterrupted meeting in the so far Santanero environment
Next year, if circumstances want it and the Urrup theater group does not change its plans, it will be 30 years, uninterrupted, of that meeting that, arrived in July, until last year in the Santanero environment, the company Theatrical Goierritarra has maintained a fondness for the performing arts of the region since 1992.
And if last year, when the situation around the pandemic was still harsher than now, Urrup did not miss the appointment, this time, although the panorama is twisted and complicated from day to day, maintaining the capacity and all the security measures, now it will not.
In this way, today, Thursday, at 10 pm at the Herri Antzokia, Urrup will premiere two short pieces by Tennessee Williams ‘Larkspur lozioaren markesa’ and ‘Zapaldutako petunien kasua’.
It is not the first time that Urrup has staged works by the North American author, since two years ago he performed, in its Basque version, ‘Desio izeneko tranbia’. Considered the most exalted narration (1947) of the playwright Tennessee Williams, winner the following year of the Pulitzer Prize in the drama category. Story that was made into a film by Elia Kazan, which featured Vivien Leigh, Kim Hunter and Marlon Brando as main actors, a film that garnered four Oscars.
As for the short pieces by the exalted American author, we will say that in his works he presents characters in extreme situations who, on the brink of the abyss, receive an opportunity to free themselves.
In ‘Larkspur lozioaren markesa’ (which refers to a lotion to eliminate lice and crabs) a tragicomic situation is approached in a seedy pension owned by Mrs. Wire, where the marques is staying; Mrs. Moore, who is not exactly a lady, and where her drunken protector, the writer, is not the famous Anton Chekhov as he would have liked.
In the also tragicomic ‘Zapaldutako petunien kasua’ the protagonist Dorothy Simple finds herself in a kind of prison with invisible walls. It is the prison of conformity and its customs. The tragedy of Dorothy Simple is based on the fact that what protects her is also what isolates her. But a sabotage could change everything.
Under the direction of Rosa Rojo, Marisol Cavero (Moore anderea), Ana Martínez (Wire anderea and Dorothy Simple), Juan Manuel Pecharromán (idazlea), Jose Luis Argiñano (polizia), Gorka Lariz (gaztea) and Maribi López ( Asperen anderea).
Once again, Urrup has made a great production effort with sets created by Imanol Juanes, built specifically for the occasion in order to be able to quickly modify and adapt them to the two short works.
It has also had the special collaboration of the users of the day center, Loinatz de Goxara, who have contributed some manual work for the decoration.
Aiala Acosta will be at the controls of the sound. The Basque translation is by Garazi Otegi and Maitane Uriarte. And finally the original advertising poster is from the graphic designer Eukene Lekuona.
Urrup is grateful, once again, for the support of the City Council and Orkli since without it “it would be very difficult for us to carry out projects like this one.” Tickets on sale at Kutxabank and half an hour before at the box office.
