Salma Hayek could be Trinity in the Matrix, but she failed the physical test

Can you imagine Salma Hayek as Trinity in the Matrix saga? Well, as fantastic as it sounds, this was almost a reality, however, the Mexican did not get the role after failing to pass the demanding physical test required by the iconic character who was finally played by Canadian actress Carrie-Anne Moss.

In a recent interview for Red Table Talk along with Jada Pinkett Smith, the Mexican, who continues to make an impact for her beauty, revealed that both were part of the four finalists in the Trinity casting process in The Matrix, at the end of the 90s, when his career was at its best after having participated in films such as From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado Y Fools Rush In.

Salma Hayek had serious screen sharing possibilities with Keanu ReevesBut when the casting process called for a physical endurance test, Hayek revealed that he ran out of chances.

“We were one of the four finalists for The Matrix. We had overcome many obstacles, screen tests and many auditions. Suddenly they brought these stunt coordinators from Asia. It was the physical test. I am flexible and agile, but I am lazy, never really. I went to the gym. Then they said, ‘You have to run!’ and I said, ‘where to?’ I couldn’t even walk around the room, “he revealed with a laugh.

The native of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, was trying to pass the physical test of The Matrix when Pinkett Smith came into the room. The Mexican admitted that she was impressed with the actress

“Here comes Jada, a sexy, slim and mean machine! Oh Lord! She was so good! It was so embarrassing! She was so fit, she was so focused, so disciplined. She was so capable, but at the same time so kind that I just looked at her and thought, ‘That’s what I want to be when I grow up,’ “Hayek added.

“Every time I’m going to have some action, I say, no, I better start with my stamina and practice the routines. You have to be like Jada!”

Neither Hayek nor Pinkett Smith were considered for the role, which was ultimately assigned to Carrie-Anne Moss, whom both consider to be the ideal woman for the role. Although the Mexican no longer received a new call, Jada was considered to join the saga as Niobe in the movies The Matrix Reloaded Y The Matrix Revolutions. Later this year, Pinkett Smith will return to the series repeating as Niobe alongside Moss and Keanu Reeves in the highly anticipated The Matrix 4 (film that has not yet revealed its official title).

This is not the first time Salma Hayek reveals that she does not get one of the roles she was considered for, something that is generally very common in Hollywood, no matter what résumé you have.

Of all those roles that she did not get, perhaps the most famous was that of Alicia Larde in A Beautiful Mind, a role that a person of Latino descent demanded as it was inspired by a woman from El Salvador, but was modified to stay in the hands of Jennifer Connelly, who received an Oscar for her performance.

Although she was not linked to any of these projects, this was not an impediment for Hayek to carve out a successful career in the film mecca, where she keeps her bonuses high.

This month, Salma returned to the card with The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, a film in which he shares credits with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson.

Likewise, the Mexican is preparing for her debut in Eternals, the film with which he will debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in which he will be directed by Chloe Zhao, the brand new winner of the Oscar 2021 for Best Direction.

As if that were not enough, Salma is also part of House of Gucci, the film that has raised a lot of expectations for its great cast.
