John Travolta has put up for sale a spacious three-story mansion on the idyllic island of Isleboro (Maine, USA), a place he met 30 years ago during a trip with fellow actress and Scientologist Kirstie Alley looking for a home to spend family vacations. And he found it, buying it in 1991, the same year he married Kelly Preston. Their family life was cut short last July, when she died of breast cancer. Today, that mansion is for sale for 4.1 million euros.
Isleboro is only accessible by ferry, which gives it a lot of privacy. The house is located on an extensive 19.4-hectare estate, enough to house a house that could very well become a charming hotel: up to 22 rooms spread over just over 1000 m2. Built in 1903 for the heir to a saga of bankers, Travolta commissioned Christopher Boshears for a very classic but colorful redecoration to resemble an English cottage.
The lobby is reminiscent of a hotel, with conversation areas, a bar and a rustic stone fireplace in the center. The dining room accommodates 12 guests comfortably around the polished wood table, and the cabinets in the huge pantry are stocked with dozens of delicate teacups and cake stands, while the kitchen is stocked with butcher counters and chef’s gear.
On this occasion, 22 rooms do not suppose an excessive number of bathrooms: seven complete ones and a toilet distributed in the three floors. The master suite is huge and consists of a living room, private dining room, fireplace, bathroom, and porch. On the third floor is the children’s wing with a classroom, library, dining room, theater and four themed rooms dedicated to Peter Pan. Outside, a swimming pool and a garage where Travolta kept his ’77 Rolls Royce to walk around the island .
The reasons why Travolta would want to sell the property could be very sentimental, after all, that house will never be the home it was, but the truth is that Travolta was already moving his real estate portfolio before his death wife. In 2017 they bought an oceanfront house in Clearwater (Florida), headquarters of Scientology, in 2019 they added a Mediterranean residence in Calabassas (Los Angeles, CA) and in early 2020 they sold another property in Brentwood (Los Angeles). Travolta maintains the gigantic family residence of Ocala, Florida, where he accumulates his collection of airplanes, including a Boeing 707.
